About Us

residents watch - bengaluru

Hi there! Welcome to the neighbourhood.

We’re Residents Watch, and we’ve been around the block a few times. We’ve been your monthly neighbourhood magazine since 2012, but now we’ve gone digital. You can still find our print magazine archives here.

We cover everything that’s happening in your community: local events, people, civic issues, and crime. We cover neighbourhoods like HSR Layout, Bellandur, Koramangala, Indiranagar, Whitefield and beyond!

Our staff are all local residents who know this city inside and out. Residents Watch has been recognised for its efforts by Google (alongside big names like Tehelka, Scroll, NDTV, Aaj Tak, The Quint, Hindustan Times, Mid-Day, The Telegraph and The Tribune).

So don’t be a stranger! We’re here to help you get to know the people of your community—and feel at home. We do this because we believe that what happens closest to home matters most.

Residents Watch is published by Write Wing Media. The full list of reporters can be found here

About Our Founder

Zahid H Javali is a born storyteller. He started writing stories to the editor of Tinkle when he was just ten years old. By the time he was sixteen, he had several stories published in the national comic book, and was already working as a reporter for local campus newspapers and civic news tabloids.

But Zahid also has a passion for public service, and in 2012, he created Residents Watch as an outlet for that burning desire to do social good. His vision was to create a publication that could “improve the quality of life in HSR Layout by providing truthful, unbiased, comprehensive and current information,” and to use the power of journalism to educate residents on important issues facing their community.

Zahid’s hyper local news efforts earned him a spot as one of Namma Bengaluru Foundation’s ‘Media Person of the Year‘ award nominees in 2018. In October 2017, he received an award from the National Students Union of India (NSUI) on the late Dr Abdul Kalam’s 86th birth anniversary celebrations. The same month, he was also featured in a study conducted by Indian Institute of Management (IIMB) on his use of social media to better his neighbourhood through Residents Watch.

Today, Zahid has decades of experience as a journalist and editor under his belt. He’s worked with national and international news outlets, advertising agencies, corporates, and nonprofits. Besides Residents Watch, he runs Write Wing Media, a content marketing firm that helps businesses tell their story, the ‘write’ way.

Zahid is the co-author of Mind Blogs 1.0 (a book of non-fiction that was also authored by Nirmala Govindarajan and Christina Daniels). Zahid was the Festival Director of The Times of India Literary Carnival in 2014. He was previously the City Editor of Mid Day, Bangalore, and the Chief of Bureau (Bangalore) for Explocity Private Limited, powered by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.
