Say ‘no’ to superstition; you can drink and eat but not watch solar eclipse with naked eyes: Scientists

The scientific community and rationalists came out with a silent awareness campaign at Town Hall today asking people to say ‘no’ to superstition. Today, being solar eclipse between 8.30am and 11.30am, they encouraged people to drink, eat and even watch the eclipse with special shades. However, they cautioned that people should avoid watching it with naked eyes. There are many solar eclipse viewers available online, which can be used.

A similar myth-busting exercise is being demonstrated today by the Kerala State Science And Technology Museum where a sweet dish was prepared and given to the visitors to demystify that one can have breakfast during the eclipse. For a history of the myths surrounding this, you can visit this link. And to know how watching the eclipse can damage your retina, you can click here. But remember, you have to use special filters certified by a proper authority. Any other filter or even a binocular or telescope or camera lens will not do.
