Recently, citizens joined hands with the civic authorities to beautify the ugly pillars of the Hebbal flyover, and are hard at work to paint the elevated road connecting Electronic City.
Looking at the way The Ugly Indian, an anonymous group of volunteers in Bangalore, are joining hands with BBMP and the other citizens to transform the city, this model is being studied by the Masters’ students of UW (University of Washington) in Seattle. The report will be shared by The Ugly Indian once it is ready.
That’s not all. The students of Washington University joined the citizens of Bangalore to beautify six pillars of Hebbal flyover in three hours recently. “My gratitude to all the civic groups and volunteers who are working hand in hand with BBMP to keep Bengaluru clean,” says mayor M Goutham Kumar. Adds BBMP Commissioner Anil Kumar: “Visiting US students beautified Hebbal flyover pillars, saying that it’s their contribution to Bengaluru for hosting them for a 10-week internship. BBMP thanks all the 25 students of UW for taking part in Swach Survekshan 2020.”
Similarly, the employees of CGI Global teamed up with The Ugly Indian volunteers to beautify the E-City Expressway. There are 140 pillars to be done, and already 120 are done by this team in partnership with the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) and NHAI (National Highways Authority of India). This is part of the 2018 ‘adopt a flyover’ initiative of the BBMP where the corporates are given a chance to develop and maintain the space under the flyovers.
