Here is how HSR cops can help you…

Recently, a police-public meeting was held at the Sector 4 park. Vehicle thefts occupied prime attention, but here are some surprising facts that came out from the meeting. Importantly, here are tips that would work for everyone in HSR and beyond. Read on…

RESIDENTS KEEP THEIR VEHICLES UNLOCKED
Responding to many vehicle thefts in the neighbourhood, the cops said that many two-wheelers are left unlocked at night. “Their suggestion is to lock the front wheel of the 2 wheelers,” said Sector 4 resident Suresh Bhaskaran.

SAFEGUARD YOUR PRIVACY
Another interesting fact revealed by the HSR cops was for the residents to make sure they don’t give away the fact that they are away by locking their gates from outside or allowing newspapers piling up at the door, or updating their social media status updates that they are going out on a vacation. All these are clear signs for thieves to make the most of it, as there are people lurking around houses and monitoring your every movement. Most thefts are well planned, not impulsive. Therefore, the thieves first do their homework before targetting you or your house. And another suggestion given by the cops is to inform the police station that you are going out of town. This is because the cops can do daily rounds of your house when you are away by including your road as part of their beat until you return. To enable this facility, you need to visit the police station and hand over a written appliation for it.

BACKGROUND CHECK MAIDS & DRIVERS
The cops recommend that residents get a background check done on maids and drivers before hiring them. “If you go to police commissioner’s office on Infantry Road, pay ₹ 250 and get a background verification done by them,” said Bhaskaran. “The easiest is to keep a copy of their Aadhaar card or driving license.”

LOST IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS?
Like we had reported earlier, if you lose any important card or document like an Aadhaar or driving licence, download the “e lost report” app, register your details and go to the nearest police station for followup.

CAB DRIVERS MESS
This is critical information that many people had no idea of how to tackle it. If unauthorised drivers park their cars, including cabs, instead of asking them to go away, call up 100. Hoysala, the police patrolling squad will take care of it.
