World Mental Health Day: How can you tackle depression?

Interpersonal relationships, bad childhood and stress at work are driving some Bangalore residents into ‘clinical depression’. Today (Oct 10) is World Mental Health Day. When we spoke to counsellor Sindhushri of Aware Mental Health in HSR Layout, she said that ‘psycho therapy’ can help extremely-stressed individuals as the sessions process the hurts and regrets that come about while exploring these conditions indepth.

“This technique will help them learn how to handle difficult thoughts and feelings,” she says. But when do you know that you need help? “When your depressed thoughts persist for more than 2-3 weeks and affect your daily routine.”

The podcast above contains three cases that typify the kind of cases that come to her. One is an elderly lady with a serious health issue. Another is a young girl suffering a series of heart breaks while the third person is a software engineer who gets panic attacks before every office meeting and undergoes depression and extreme loneliness when he reaches home.
